The songs include social issues and political satires. The cardboard cutouts were used as a backdrop for the dances on stage. Lavani songs are mostly about the sexual union between lovers. When Lavani comes to sensual depiction it sometimes outsteps social decency while depicting sexual passion. History: Lavani is performed on stage and used to be a form of entertainment in the private chambers of royal members. Lavni is performed mainly by female dancers but male dancers are part of it as well. Instruments: Dholki is the main instrument played during a Lavani performance. Dancers need to dance with the rapid beating of the dholki as they perform. Costumes: The female dancers wear Nauwari Saree (9 yards long silk material with gold and colourful embroidery)They also wear heavy jewelry during the performances.
